Children’s Dental Emergencies Kallangur

Having basic knowledge of children’s emergency dental care can help your kids prevent tooth loss and other dental problems. Dental emergencies are inevitable, especially for active children who can hurt themselves during playtime.

In several ways, dental emergencies are the same with caring for any other mishaps and injury. In the event of trauma to the teeth or mouth, your emergency dentist at Prevent Dental Suite provides useful dental first aid tips to help you deal with your child’s dental emergency.

Common Dental Emergencies in Children and How to Handle Them

Toothaches

  • Help your child rinse their mouth vigorously with warm water or saline solution (salted water).

  • Floss their tooth to get rid of any food trapped between the teeth, which can aggravate the pain.

  • Put a cold compress outside the cheeks around the affected area.

  • If your child needs a painkiller, have them take children’s pain medication. Don’t use aspirin and avoid applying the medication to the tooth or gum area.

Broken Tooth

  • Rinse the injured area with warm clean water.

  • Using a clean cloth, apply direct pressure on the bleeding area.

  • If possible, gather the broken tooth fragments. Pick it up by the crown without touching the roots.

  • Go to the nearest dental clinic or call your dentist right away.

Knocked-out Tooth

  • Rinse your child’s mouth with warm clean water.

  • Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. (You can use popsicles, too)

  • Pick the tooth up by the crown and not the root. Soak the tooth in saline or milk.

  • Go to the dentist immediately as they may be able to reimplant the tooth.

Broken Braces

  • Slowly and carefully move the offending wire into place by using a pencil eraser

  • See a dentist as soon as possible.

  • Cover the edges with gauze, cotton or gum on the way to the clinic.
