When you start thinking about spring cleaning there’s a pretty good chance you immediately think about getting your home in shape after being stuck inside during the winter.
But spring is a great time to refresh and clean all areas of your life. So, as you focus on spring cleaning don’t forget about your oral health.
After all, oral health is essential to your overall health, and a stunning smile looks and feels excellent, attracts others, and gives a good impression.
So, this spring take some time to renew your oral health. At Prevent Dental Suite we’d like to suggest the following approaches to a spring cleaning for your teeth.
What you can do
Toss out your old toothbrush! You probably know that you’re supposed to do this every three months or so. The seasons are a great way to measure this time – just remember that you need a new brush at the turn of each season.
Also, replace your toothbrush if it appears frayed or beaten down and ALWAYS replace a toothbrush after you have been ill. Finally, never share your toothbrush as bacteria and disease can be passed along on a toothbrush.
Upgrade your electrical system with an electronic toothbrush! You might consider upgrading to new technology and getting yourself an electric toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes use sonic waves and vibrations to break down plaque and reach places you might otherwise miss.
They are also good at forcing liquid and toothpaste between the teeth to better clean there. Finally, they come with cool features like built-in timers that can help you brush for the recommended two minutes.
Replace toothpaste and mouthwash. Believe it or not, but toothpaste and mouthwash have an expiration date. They contain ingredients to ensure proper cleaning, fluoridation, to avoid plaque buildup, and to freshen breath.
Each of these ingredients can degrade over time. So, in spring toss out old toothpaste and mouthwash and begin again!
Don’t forget cleaning dental appliances. If you wear any removable dental device, make sure to brush them regularly. A periodic soak in a gentle cleansing solution is also a good choice to keep them clean.
This cleaning routine should also be applied to any cases or holders you use to keep your appliances available. They can collect bacteria and gunk, so a good soak and scrubbing are as good for them as it is for your dental devices.
Start a healthy garden. It is time to start planning and planting your garden. Choose crunchy vegetables that are high in fibre and act as natural abrasives to clean your teeth. Vegetables like celery, carrots, and broccoli scrub your teeth and produce saliva to wash away food particles.
What Prevent Dental Suite can contribute to your spring cleaning
Checkup and Clean. At Prevent Dental Suite, we’re all about prevention. We work hard to prevent decay and disease by encouraging regular check-ups, thorough cleaning, and educating patients on oral hygiene.
What do we do?
- First, we examine your teeth using specialised hand tools, and if more examination is necessary, X-rays and photographs.
- If treatment is required, it may be administered on the spot if possible.
- Then your teeth are scaled and polished to remove build-up including plaque, tartar, calculus, and stains. Fluoride is applied to prevent acid decay and cavities.
- Finally, we advise you on techniques to maintain good oral health and prevent more problems.

Spring cleaning means washing your beddings, maybe hanging them out in the sun, opening closets, windows, and doors to get rid of those trapped-in winter smells. Do the same for your mouth by addressing your bad breath! Although bad breath can be concealed with mint gums and breath freshener spray, their effect is temporary. By visiting your dentist, you will be able to identify what causes your mouth odour and what treatment suits your problem.
